The Placentia Yorba Linda Unified Council of PTAs/PTSAs represents over 10,000 members at 30 schools in the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District. The Council is celebrating 50 years of supporting the local units in our district. The Council strives to educate unit leaders, model good parliamentary procedures and advocate on behalf of our members. We also provide thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving graduating seniors annually.
The Placentia Yorba Linda Unified Council of PTAs/PTSAs shares the State PTA's mission:
The mission of the California State PTA is to positively impact the lives of all children and families.
We increased our membership by over 200 members to 10,162; placing us 4th highest among school districts in Orange County. We raised $4,000 for college scholarships, allowing us to hand out 10 senior scholarships-a new record for our Council! We sent more members than ever to Sacramento to advocate for adequate funding for our schools. As a whole, our members donated over 246,000 hours of volunteer work to the schools and district. The IRS values this donation of time to be worth in excess of $5.5 million dollars. The State PTA recognized our 50 years of service with a Legacy Award presented at the 114th Convention in San Jose. And finally, we received the Outstanding Council award from 4th District PTA. This is the highest award given to a council in Orange County.
Purpose of PTA
A council is a group of PTA units organized under the authority of the California State PTA for the purpose of conference, leadership training, and coordination of the efforts of the member units. A council provides the units within a city, county, or area an opportunity for cooperation in promoting their common interests and conference regarding their common problems. It coordinates the work of the council's units with other agencies or organizations in the area working for children and youth. It serves as a channel of communication between the state and district PTA and the units.
