Congratulations to the Student Artists from 24 Schools, who created 196 original entries based on the theme "I Matter Because." Students qualified for the Council level competition by being in the top 3 entries from each Art Category/Age Division, from their school.
2021-2022 theme "I Will Save the World By..."
Who during this challenging year...created powerful artwork from 6 different art categories, expressing the theme "I Matter Because."
Who recognized the power of art for their children, and supported, provided resources and transported their entries to the PTA/PTSA.
Who encouraged their students to participate, and communicated the Reflections opportunity to their school body.
Who sponsor the program in their schools, providing the organization and outreach to the student artists, as well as fulfilling the requirements to Council. Thank you to the Unit Chairs/Reps...without their efforts, Reflections would not be a viable program at their school.
Student Artists are Listed by Alphabetical Order: School, then by Name,
Per Art Category and Age Division.
Age Divisions:
Primary - Grades PreK - 2
Intermediate - Grades 3 - 5
Middle School - Grades 6 - 8
High School - Grades 9 -12
Special Artists - All Grades
The Artistic Statement is written by the Student Artist using 10-100 words to describe how the their original artwork connects to the theme "I Matter Because."
The Artistic Statement is the most important aspect of the entry. See the Judges Rubric.
Unfortunately...
Due to space limitations on the site, the Artistic Statements could not be featured in the Virtual Showcase.
To remain neutral, the names of the Student Artists and any identifying information is hidden from the judges.
The Judges Rubric:
Level of Interpretation 20pts. - How closely the piece relates to the theme - connected by the Artistic Statement.
Creativity 10pts. - How creative and original the piece is in its conception.
Technique 10pts.- The level of skill demonstrated in basic principals/technique in the art category.
PYLUC Reflections Awards:
Awards will be provided, but will be presented to the Student Artists through their individual school's PTAs/PTSAs, at their own discretion.

Surprise! 2nd and 3rd Place Awards and Honorable Mention Awards were not communicated to the Student Artists prior to the Showcase.
To represent PYLUC, Student Artists who received a 1st Place Award of Excellence in their Art Category, Age Division were forwarded up to the Fourth District level of competition. The Fourth District Gallery was postponed and a new date has not been announced.
Two PYLUC Student Artists received a 1st Place Award of Excellence qualifying their submissions to compete at the State level.

The Student Choreographer expresses their own thoughts and ideas through movement. They may be the performer or one of the performers in the piece but does not need to perform the piece. Styles can include: ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, tap, folk dance, religious dance, color guard, ice skating/dance, martial arts, circus arts, and gymnastics floor routines.
Film Production is the process of making a film. The Student Film Producer does not need to appear in the film, but if the Producer chooses to, a tripod may be used. All screenwriting, directing, and editing must be done by the Student Producer. Recommended styles: animation, narrative, documentary, experimental and multimedia.
Literature is the art of writing. The Student Author expresses their own thoughts and ideas with words. The entry must not exceed 2000 words. Author's submit an original piece of work handwritten or typed, Illustrations though expressive, will not be considered in the judgement. Fiction or non fiction styles can include: prose, poetry, drama, reflective essay, narrative and short story.
The Student Composer is a person who expresses their own thoughts and ideas through the use of sound. They may submit an original entry performed by an individual or group or use a sound library generated performance of a composed score. Middle and High School Composers also must submit music notation of their composition.
Visual Arts includes many art forms that are visual in nature. The Student Artist captures their own thoughts and ideas to create a visual piece of art. Accepted forms of art include: drawings, paintings, architecture (2D/3D), carpentry, printing, ceramics, collages (photographic and assembled materials), computer - generated images, crafts, fabric, fiber, kites, jewelry, metal and sculptures.
